Nancy H. Navar, age 75, of Wickliffe, passed away on Good Friday at her home after a long illness.
She is survived by her sister, Bunny Navar and brother, Skip Navar. Skip and Ann’s children, Tara Navar, Jay Navar and Tracy Navar Bowers, husband Nick and their children Birdie and Bode Bowers were devoted to their Aunt Nancy.
Nancy loved the outdoors and had many adventures camping all over the U.S. with her beloved dogs. She was a dedicated leader in the field of Recreational Therapy and trained many students to become therapists who work with disabled people to improve their quality of life. Nancy had a PhD in Recreation Therapy, and her professional associations were instrumental in pioneering the Americans With Disabilities Act and setting legal standards for accessibility for all.
Nancy received the Distinguished Fellow Award from the American Therapeutic Recreation Association while teaching at University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse and retired from teaching college in 2014.
