Giovanni "John" Morielli

Giovanni “John” Morielli, age 91, of Willowick, passed away October 19, 2022. He was born on July 8, 1931, in Montorio nei Frentani, Italy. At age 17, Giovanni immigrated to the United States and settled in Cleveland. He loved this country deeply and was so grateful for the possibilities that would lay ahead that he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served from 1952-1954.

Giovanni married the love of his life, Isabelle, on May 26, 1956, at Holy Redeemer Church in Cleveland. They eventually moved to Willowick, where they raised their family, and John continued his legacy of giving back. He volunteered with numerous organizations, boards and committees and also served on the City Council for Ward Two, while working for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company.

The only things more important to John than love of country and community were his friends and family, and he always made time to share his wisdom and stories with those he loved, especially his grandchildren. We will miss these conversations greatly but will strive to honor John’s memory by continuing to pass along his life lessons to our own loved ones.

Giovanni was the dearest father of Bernadine “Dina” (Thomas) Clements and Lorinda “Lori” (Tony) Goddard; devoted grandfather of John and Kathryn (Neil Rodrigues) Clements and Kyle and Emily Goddard.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Isabelle (nee Discenza); parents, Luigi and Florinda (nee Spidalieri) Morielli and sisters, Maria Petrella, Ida Raimondo and Adalgisa Petrella.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 32114 Vine St., Willowick. Inurnment will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Twp. at a later date.
