Eugene "Tony" DiDona Obituary

Eugene “Tony” Anthony DiDona, passed away at his home that he shared with his beloved wife and son on May 19, 2021. Tony was born in 1948 and grew up in Cleveland with his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.

He attended Collinwood High School for a time and later enlisted in the Navy. Following his service, Tony met, fell in love, and married the love of his life Paula Jo Fisher on June 17, 1967. Needing to support his new wife, Tony began a career with The United States Post Office. Tony and Paula raised their children Anthony and Nikki in the Collinwood area and attended church at Holy Redeemer Parish; the same church where they were wed.

Tony was a devoted husband to Paula for 53 years, caring for her during her battle with cancer. He was a loving father to Anthony and Nikki. After several years at the South Euclid branch of the United States Post Office, Tony retired, but kept active and vital.

One of his favorite hobbies was growing vegetables and planting flowers. Becoming a grandfather was one of the biggest joys in Tony’s life. Catching up with friends at the local greasy spoon was one of Tony’s most special past times. He enjoyed old cars, action movies, mysteries, the newspaper, crossword puzzles and The Smithsonian Magazine. Surrounded by family always, Tony was happiest spending time with the people most important to him. Even when he was sick, his intention was to connect with his family whenever possible.

Tony is survived by his treasured wife of 53 years Paula DiDona, and his children; the separated Diana Hill (and her family), Anthony DiDona and Nicole DiDona-Smith (Dustin). His cherished grandchildren Anthony DiDona Jr, (Hillary), Briana Worley (Matthew), Tyler Eugene Smith and Pilot Jason Smith. His enduring legacy is best represented in his great-grandchildren Claire Worley, Cecilia DiDona, Noah Worley and Gabriel DiDona. He is also survived by his siblings Frances Beukemann (John), Richard DiDona, Charles DiDona (Terry), Christina DiDona-Clark (Mike), Philip DiDona (the late Shirley). He was a dear uncle to numerous nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great-nephews.

Tony was preceded in death by his father Jean DiDona and his mother Margaret DiDona.
