Mass of Christian Burial for Edward M. Henry, age 82, of Willoughby Hills, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2022 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 29850 Euclid Ave., Wickliffe. Edward passed away peacefully October 17, 2022. He was born on September 10, 1940 in Cleveland, OH and was raised in the Buckeye Woodhill area.
Ed attended St. Benedict’s and Benedictine High School where he was an altar server, sang in the boys choir, also took up playing the accordion, Hawaiian guitar, piano and organ which was his passion to play in church and did so for 60 years.
Ed was drafted into the U.S. Army and a founding member of the Fife and Drum Corp stationed in Washington D.C. from 1963 to 1965. He also marched in President Lyndon Johnson’s Inauguration Parade with his unit.
Ed loved to read, go on Amazon, try his luck at the casino, but we all know how that goes, also loved going on YouTube and of course he loved watching sports.
He moved to Lake County in 1970 and moved to Wickliffe in 1973 where he was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and served as Eucharistic Minister, Pre Cana team member, Christ renews our parish program, annual church festival volunteer, music ministry where he played the organ for many liturgical celebrations and played at countless weddings and funerals.
Ed also played the organ for St. Justin Martyr and St. Mary Magdalene Parishes and was the choir director for Holy Trinity Church in Bedford Heights and sang in the Lake County Messiah Chorus for 10 years.
He was a board member and volunteer at the Wickliffe Senior Center, a member of the Wickliffe Hall of Fame and was inducted in 2010 for religion and also help deliver Meals on Wheels for about seven years.
Ed was a member of the Wickliffe Knights of Columbus Council #5405 and was 3rd Degree Knight, also a member of St. Joseph Czech Lodge, U.S. Army Fife and Drum Alumni, American Organ Society, Western Reserve Theatre Organ Society and a Lifetime member of the U.S. Army “Old Guard Association.”
Ed retired in 2007 after working for 40 years in the plumbing and heating wholesale industry. He owned Western Plumbing Supply Co. on Tyler Blvd. in Mentor, OH along with three other partners. The company was established in 1983 and they sold the company in 2001.
Although he could not play the organ anymore, which he thoroughly missed, his love for the church and music lived on through his computer and YouTube. God blessed us with Ed’s talent for everyone to enjoy which will be missed by many dearly.
Edward was the beloved husband of 55 years to Georgine (nee Bogatay); dearest father of Michelle (Bob) Sokolowski and Theresa (Scott) Dielman; devoted grandfather to his granddog and grandcats; dear brother of Donna Henry, David (Betty) Henry and Barbara (Chuck, deceased) Bulfinch. He was a loving husband and caring father who was a good joke teller with a great mind.
The family will receive friends at The Orlando-Donsante-Previte Funeral Home 29550 Euclid Ave., Wickliffe, on Thursday, October 20th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Twp.
