Beverley Jones Obituary

Beverley R. Jones (nee Ridley), age 84, of Wickliffe, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2023, hours after hospice intervened and was a strong fighter until the very end. She was born on October 2, 1938 in Cleveland, OH to the late Harry and Mary (nee Hacklo) Ridley.

Beverley was the beloved wife of David; dearest mother of Mark Modica and Laura Jones; devoted grandmother of Eryn and Caitlyn Dineen.

The family would like to thank the entire medical staff and palliative care team at UH Lake West (Third Floor ICU) for their constant care and compassion. Their devotion was to the entire family. No words can express the gratitude the family has for their professionalism and attentiveness, sometimes minute by minute. Special thanks also go to the staff at Ohio Living Hospice. The family was comforted making the hardest decision of their lives, which gave Beverley dignity when she passed away, pain-free and naturally.

Married for 53 years, Beverley took exceptional care of David, and she did so like the proverbial "Mary Margaret Catherine Dineen" Irish wife: She kept an immaculate home. She kept track of all the appointments and health matters. She still scrubbed her own floors and washed her own windows.  Every stitch of clothing was pressed and neatly hung.  To say David was well taken of would be an understatement.  Beverley was in charge of everything.  As David would say, "She's the boss."

Beverley and David (who affectionately called each other "Heart") enjoyed afternoons of Scrabble and sunset evenings at the Willowick Lakefront Park.  Beverley made many friends at that park, but the dog friends were her favorites.  Every pooch who met Beverley got claimed by an affectionate "grandma" who never forgot their favorite treats. It was warming to watch Beverley's furry friends scamper in excitement whenever they saw her.  Sunsets and bow-wows, what could be a better pastime?

Barely five feet tall, Beverley had the strength of a thousand men. She was the backbone of the entire family.  Courageous and confident, Beverley was a lion-hearted woman with enviable character. There were not many battles she couldn't overcome, even cancer. She triumphed through years of chemo and radiation and still took care of David and her home. On one particularly draining day, Beverley was asked to sit down for a moment and rest. Her response?  "God gave me the strength to get up today, and by God, I'm going to use it." Those very traits are seen in her beautiful granddaughters (Eryn and Caitlyn), both of whom are sure-footed and grounded.  Their grandma was certainly proud of them!

Finally, if you can be anything in this world, be kind. Beverley was exceptionally generous to her family, neighbors and strangers in need. Remember to always be guided by your heart and to give to those who struggle. Your blessings are not what you have, but what you give. She also believed in animal rights and donated to countless wildlife and animal charities. The family asks that you remember Beverley and donate in her name to the Lake Humane Society 7564 Tyler Blvd. Building E, Mentor, OH 44060 or another animal charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Beverley’s honor at a later date.
