Wilmer (Taylor) Bishop's Obituary

WILMER BISHOP (nee Taylor), age 93, of Wickliffe, passed away November 18, 2024. Mrs. Bishop was born on September 30, 1931 in Tuscaloosa, AL, and was the first of three children to be born to the late Janoa and Myertie (nee McCollum) Taylor.

She attended Tuscaloosa Training School and Zion Baptist Church, where she was baptized at age 12 and from there on, she served the Lord all her life. On April 25,1948, she married the love of her life, Samuel Bishop. They moved to Cleveland, OH and later made their home in Wickliffe, OH. To this union, they were blessed with three children.

While working at Cleveland State Hospital, she enrolled in nursing school and earned her degree. She worked as an LPN at Laurelwood Hospital in psychiatric care for 30 years. Seniors were her favorite patients. She cared for her mother for 18 years, and then later her husband for 8 years who both suffered from Alzheimer's disease.

She was a resident of Wickliffe since 1959 where she was also a longtime member of Vineyard Community Church. Over the years as a member of the church, she taught children's bible school, was also involved with their prayer and foodbank ministries, which brought her joy in serving the Lord.

Wilmer had a passion for many charitable organizations, donating to many on a monthly basis and she loved spending time with her family and friends by hosting many gatherings over the years.

Wilmer was the beloved wife of the late Samuel; loving mother of Roland (Janet), Michael (Linda) and Samuel R. (Veronica) Bishop; devoted grandmother of Rachell Bishop, Roslyn (Anthony) Morris, Michael Bishop, Jay Bishop, Jennie Peoples, Jenae (Tyra) Godfrey, Noah Bishop and great grandmother of Aaron (Erin), Alyssa, and Anthony Morris, Jr., Samantha and Jayce Bishop, Nova Godfrey, London Cox, Maddie Smith and great-great grandmother of three; dear sister of Nezie (Alex) Foster and Ida Taylor (all deceased); dear niece to her 96 year old aunt, Margaret Bishop-Davis; dear aunt to many nieces and nephews; dear friend to many.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Vineyard Community Church 1928 East 300th St., Wickliffe, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in Willoughby Memorial Gardens following services.
