William "Bill" R. Owen, Jr., age 97, of Mentor, passed away peacefully February 12, 2026. He was born August 20, 1928 in Carson, ND to the late William, Sr. and Anna (nee Hamer).
Bill was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving much of his tour on the USS Midway aircraft carrier prior to the Korean War. After his discharge from the Navy, Bill began his career in the banking industry working for the same bank for 37 years before retiring. He was a former member and treasurer of Wickliffe Presbyterian Church before his longtime tenure as a member and treasurer of Grace Presbyterian Church in Lakewood.
Bill enjoyed spending time with family, playing golf, bowling, and watching the Cleveland Indians. He also spent countless hours on his favorite past-time; working on jigsaw puzzles (and the occasional crossword puzzle). After the passing of his wife, Alice, Bill moved into Parker Place Gracious Retirement Living facility in Mentor where he spent years living across the hall from his loving big sister, Opal, before her passing. Bill became the longest tenured resident at Parker Place (14+ years), developed many friendships, and was the champion of the Parker Place Wii Bowling league.
Bill was the beloved husband of the late Alice (nee Peters); loving father of Sue (Alan) Scipione, Bill (Bridget) and Bob (Gina); devoted grandfather of Lyndsay (Ryan) Edwards, Shannon (Mike) Gamiere, Jessica (Ron) Brenner, Clayton (Molly), Ashley (Tyler) Bohinc, Cortney (Cynthia) Humpherys and great grandfather of Nolan and Norah Edwards, Adriana Brenner, Owen Zimmerman and Jesse Bohinc; dear brother of Hugh (Marian), Mary (Ken) Richardson, Ruth (Sid) Laurent and Opal (John) Pinasky (all deceased); dear uncle of Mary Anne (Jim) Taglia, Sandy (Randy) Grezeny and many other nieces and nephews; loving companion of Maryanne Haycox. Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandy (nee McCord), mother of his loving children.
The family will receive friends at THE ORLANDO-DONSANTE-PREVITE FUNERAL HOME 29550 EUCLID AVE., WICKLIFFE, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26TH FROM 4:00 TO 8:00 P.M., WHERE A FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 10:00 A.M. ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27TH. Entombment will be in Brooklyn Hts. Cemetery in Cleveland following the service.
