Raymond "Ray" Dimattia's Obituary

Raymond "Ray" DiMattia, age 84, of Wickliffe, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2024. Born November 2, 1939, to the late Ida (nee Donsante) and Louis DiMattia.

Ray was a proud alumnus of Wickliffe City Schools where he was a student-athlete lettering in baseball, football, and basketball. This is when Ray met his high school sweetheart and beloved wife Judy. Ray was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Wickliffe where he served as Eucharistic Minister for many years. He was a longtime member of the Wickliffe Italian-American Club, where he served on the Parliamentary Committee. He enjoyed playing bocce, golf, and cards. Ray was an avid sports fan of all Cleveland sports teams, The Ohio State University Buckeyes and their marching band. He especially loved the Wickliffe H.S. marching band, which he would watch at half-time while filming football games as a volunteer for more than 50 years. For this service, he was a 2013 Inductee to the Wickliffe Schools Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame.

Ray was a kind and caring man with a playful sense of humor. He was a humble, giving person. The American Red Cross benefited from his blood donations (8+ gallons). Ray was employed by Hutco Electric until 1981, then spent the rest of his career where he was well known for his excellent customer service at Graybar Electric Supply. In post-retirement, he had his dream job of working at Pine Ridge Golf Club.

Ray is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Judy (nee Bartholomew); children, Raymond (Cindy) DiMattia Jr., Denise (Kenny) Morgan, Vincent (Michelle) DiMattia, Laureen (Mike) Adams, Margaret (Alan) Simpson and Anne DiMattia; grandchildren, Grant (Christa) Morgan, Brittany Morgan, Mathew DiMattia, Meghan (Frank) Nappo, Michael (Samantha) Adams, Taylor Adams, Holly (Matt) Morris, Samuel Adams, Zachary (Samantha) DiMattia and five great grandchildren; sister, Theresa (David) Shine and sister-in-law, Julie DiMattia; many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins which are too numerous to name.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony DiMattia, sister, Mary Jane O'Shaughnessy, and brother-in-law, Patrick O'Shaughnessy.
