Philomena M. (Indiano) Black's Obituary

Philomena M. Black (nee Indiano), age 95, passed away September 26, 2024 at Hillcrest Hospital.

Philomena was born in Cleveland, OH and had lived in East Cleveland before moving to Euclid where she lived for 32 years and then resided in Mentor, Concord Twp., and most recently Eastlake, where she was also a parishioner of St. Justin Martyr Church. She was a caregiver for her stepfather and mother in their later years, and her most important job was being a homemaker.

Philomena attended William Brett School for 1st through 6th grade and then attended Collinwood High School from 7th grade up until she graduated. In the 8th grade she met John Melvin Black at the Sweetheart's Prom, and they were married in 1948 at St. Philomena Church in East Cleveland. They then became parishioners of St. William Church when they resided in Euclid and then became parishioners of St. Bede the Venerable Church in Mentor. John and Philomena were married for 44 years until John passed away in 1994.

After high school, Philomena worked at the police station in Downtown Cleveland and then went to work for White Motors. During wartime she worked for Graphite Bronze and then eventually went on to work for Dalton Clothing, and she worked in small restaurants where she did catering with her father. She loved photography, gardening, refinishing old furniture, painting (not pictures, but walls), cut grass, family backyard cookouts and family get togethers every holiday. Philomena also enjoyed bowling where she played with the St. William's team for 12 years, and also played on St. William's volleyball team.

Philomena was the beloved wife of the late John Melvin; dearest mother of Wayne Melvin (deceased) and Richard Dean (Diane); devoted grandmother of Jonathan, Matthew and Nichole Black; beloved daughter of the late Carmen Indiano and Carmela (nee Screnci) and beloved stepdaughter of Ubaldo DePetris dear sister of Sam Indiano and of the late Georgetta Garmone, Carmela Indiano, Armond Eugene DePetris, William DePetris, Ralph DePetris and Mary DePetris; dear aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2nd at THE ORLANDO-DONSANTE-PREVITE FUNERAL HOME 29550 EUCLID AVE., WICKLIFFE, WHERE THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1ST FROM 3:00 TO 7:00 PM. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Twp.
