The Funeral Liturgy for Mildred "Millie" Honkala-Laituri (nee Hakola), age 95, of Painesville Twp., will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church 508 Eagle St., Fairport Harbor. Millie passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones February 9, 2025. She was born May 22, 1929 in Painesville, OH to the late Laurie and Hilda (nee Kauppila) Hakola.

Millie was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairport Harbor where she also sang in the choir since she was a child, a longtime member of the Finnish Heritage Museum and she was proud to be a stubborn Finn who also enjoyed Finnish Folk Dancing. She thoroughly enjoyed baking especially when she made her famous banana bars and nisu, knitting, cross stitching, painting and scrapbooking. Family was everything to Millie especially being able to spend quality time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Millie was the beloved wife to her late husband, John Honkala, and her second husband, John Laituri; loving mother of Tom (Karen), Tim (Carmella), Phil (Karen) and Paul (Kellie); devoted grandmother of Celeste (Anthony) Previte, Matt (Nikki), Megan (Rich) Guthrie, Katie (Craig) Voorhees, Jon, Johnny, Sarah, Luke, Sam and great grandmother of Evan, Emma, Ben, Bailey, Peyton, Morgan, Emery, Audrey, Lincoln, Bianca and Santino; dear sister of Melvin (Jena, deceased) Hakola, Richard Hakola and Kaye McMillen (all deceased); dear aunt and great aunt to many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday, February 27th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Painesville following the funeral liturgy.
