John Edward Barratt, passed away on June 24, 2026, at the age of 77.

John lived his whole life in Lake County. He graduated from Riverside High School where he played football and baseball. He went on to play college baseball at Otterbein University from which he graduated.

He was one of the founding staff members at the Free Clinic in Mentor, Counseling and helping folks with substance abuse and emotional crises. He worked for the News-Herald for several years and then moved on to a career with the USPS. John was a well-known and loved mail carrier in Painesville for over two decades.

John was a lover of animals, befriending many pets on his route. He rescued several dogs during his life, and this would become part of his life mission. He was a compassionate, caring, and thoughtful person. He loved baseball, was in constant wonder at the mysteries of nature and always had a positive comeback from the serious life events he was dealt. John was a good listener and seemed to always know what to say. He was an inspiration and a joy to be around. His smile and sense of humor will be missed.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and William Barratt.

He is survived by his siblings, William Barratt of Painesville, Peter Barratt (Anne) of Atlanta, GA and Amy Morgan (Steve) of Roswell, GA. He is also survived by three nieces, Jenna Erwood, Laura Vinson and MacKenzie Atkinson along with three great nephews and his beloved chocolate lab, Hershey.
