George W. Schromm's Obituary

George W. Schromm, age 96, a lifetime resident of Wickliffe, passed away July 31, 2023. George was born February 4, 1927 to the late George and Sara (nee Gottschling) and was raised in Wickliffe.

George founded and served as the Scout Master for the first Boy Scouts Troop in Wickliffe, when his son showed an interest in scouting. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served overseas during the Korean War. George was a member of the American Legion Brewer Tarasco Post 7, the VFW and the Willoughby Eagles. He was baptized a Lutheran as a child; but he considered himself a "dry" member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

George owned and operated Schromm Building and Contracting and has built or worked on many additions, garages, homes, the Wickliffe City Hall along with other community churches and facilities.  George valued the opportunity to work and had strong work ethics.  He often used his contracting and building skills to serve others. He provided many youth the opportunity to learn from his expert craftsmanship and gain useful skills.

George's favorite pastime was fishing. He enjoyed bowling, going for drives, singing, attending festivals, hunting golf balls at Geneva-On-The-Lake and eating his wife's renowned home-cooking and baked goods. He also enjoyed making his fabulous Christmas toffee which gladdened many families each year.

George enjoyed life and brought laughter and joy to others with his humor and friendly, generous nature. He was a man of charity, kindness, strength and ethical wisdom.

George and his late wife Beulah (aka: Bee) enjoyed building community. Together they brought memories and pleasure to their neighbors, friends and family putting on backyard carnivals, July 4th celebrations with fireworks displays and facilitating block parties.

George valued family. He and Bee opened their home to foster children, troubled youth and family in need. Holidays were always attended by those who didn't have other places to go.

George served his God, family, friends, community and country to the fullest.

George was the beloved husband of the late Beulah (nee Ravencraft); dearest father of Dan (Kathleen McCoy Bennett) and Kathy (Doug) Lopez; devoted grandfather of Josh (Christine Sloboda), Tony, Sam (Elaina) and great grandfather of Adeline and Cadence; dear brother of the late Helen.
