Donald P.
Vislosky
January 9, 1932 – April 24, 2026
Donald P. Vislosky, age 94, who valued family as his most important and worthwhile priority, died peacefully at home, on Friday, April 24, 2026, from kidney disease. Although the disease claimed his independence in the last few months, it did not define his life. He lived as he always had, with courage, resilience, perseverance, and joy.
Don was born in Bridgeport, CT on January 9, 1932, and was raised in Spangler, PA. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Coming to Cleveland for work in the manufacturing industry, he worked as a laborer for Atlas Bolt and Republic Steel before finding employment as a machinist for National Acme, where he spent more than 25 years. He was employed concurrently, as a machinist at National Acme and for the City of East Cleveland, initially as an auxiliary policeman, then as a full-time officer beginning in 1980.
After retirement, he worked at a friend’s truck rental business and then at O’Reilly’s delivering auto parts, jobs which he loved. His greatest joy was getting behind the wheel of his car and driving – road trips, fall leaf peeping, Sunday drives – he was ready to go at any time. And his second greatest joy was polka music.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary Lou (nee Chigas); loving father of Ray and Kathy; devoted grandfather of Joshua (Samantha Burnette), Jasmyn, and Quinn Winchester; dear brother of John Patrick (Nan), Jo Anne Sorci, and Carol Ponting (Dave); dear uncle to many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by the parents who raised him, Ann and John Patrick; the mother who gave him life, Helen (nee Vislosky) Hourigan; and two brothers, Paul and Pete Strogie.
