Carol A.
Rode
October 27, 1958 – August 24, 2022
Carol Ann Rode (better known as "Auntie/AC"), age 63, passed away peacefully at home in Wickliffe, Ohio on August 24, 2022, in the presence of her loving family. Carol was born on October 27, 1958 to the late George and Patricia Rode.
Carol was a 1976 graduate of Wickliffe High School. After high school, she attended data entry school and worked at Progressive Insurance and Payne's Data Entry where she developed lifelong friendships. She began working for Euclid Chemical in 1992, where she stayed for nearly 30 years, eventually becoming Manager of Administration. At "EuCo," Carol developed a large work family and more friendships that spanned the country. Up until her passing, she maintained close communication with many of her former colleagues. She spoke fondly of them and they of her. She was loved throughout the company and the outpouring of nostalgia for her and support for her family in the wake of her passing speaks volumes about the relationships that she developed over the years.
Carol was a marvelous cook and baker. Nothing brought her more joy than preparing a meal or treats for the people she loved. Everyone looked forward to her cakes, nut rolls, Christmas cookies, and stuffed cabbages. If it was your birthday, Carol was baking your favorite cake. If you had a favorite character, Carol would find the mold for it and make that Darth Vader cake. If you wanted popcorn, she got out the kernels, melted the butter, and made it for you from scratch. She was the queen of VHS and cassette tapes and always had at least two flavors of chewing gum. The joy of those around her brought her happiness. Her kindness and generosity will live on in those who loved her.
Carol was a friend to many and enjoyed spending time with all of her friends, traveling, playing cards, dining out or just conversing over a cocktail or glass of wine. Carol's knowledge base was vast due to her many and varied interests, and she could maintain a conversation about anything with anyone. She loved to laugh, and appreciated a good joke or funny story, recounting anecdotes that would keep her and those around her laughing long after their last get together. She also enjoyed watching movies (especially Hallmark), reading, exchanging gifts, playing board games, cards and crossword puzzles, trading recipes, creating annual Christmas tree ornaments and crocheting. She especially loved spending time with her parents, both at their family home in Wickliffe and in the warmth of North Fort Myers, Florida at their retirement community. Carol enjoyed many vacations and took great pleasure in accompanying her mother to destinations across the country that she never would have seen without Carol.
Above all else, Carol was Auntie. It was her primary identity and brought her the greatest joy. Carol treated her nieces and nephews as her own children. She was a giver. All she wanted to do was spoil others and create memories through making family dinners at home, eating out at new or favorite restaurants, giving gifts, taking trips, attending events, theater and Indians games, watching movies, listening to music, hosting sleep overs, going shopping, playing games, decorating for holidays, and spending quality time together. She is warmly remembered by all of her nieces and nephews as the "fun" auntie who would buy all the cool presents and treats that your parents wouldn't and who was always kind and calm when your parents weren't. She is a legend of our collective childhood and forever holds a most special place in all of our hearts and minds.
Carol is survived by her siblings Mike Rode, Tom Rode (Julie), Sue Farina (Tony), and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Lorah. A long list of nephews and nieces and great nieces and nephews that she loved so much; Paul & Jamie Rode (Nathan, Tristan, & Raylan), Tom & Jacqueline Rode (Neve), Jill & Jesse Nolan (Gus & Charlie), Sarah & Evan Feinberg (Luke, Jake & Zack), Tiffany Rode, Adam Rode, Kate Rode, Samuel Farina, and Alex Farina.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Carol's wonderful caregivers at Ohio Living Hospice as well as the palliative care nursing team at Lake West Hospital. Per her wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for Carol. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Carol's honor to Ohio Living Hospice or The Arthritis Foundation.
