Anita G.
Jewell
March 4, 1941 – April 9, 2026
Anita Gail Jewell (nee Wade), age 85, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026 from MDS blood cancer and Lewy Body dementia. She was born in Thorpe, WV on March 4, 1941, and was very proud of her Indigenous heritage in her adult years.
When she was a teenager, she met her future husband, Jack Jewell; they both knew that they were meant to be. They married before he was shipped out with the U.S. Navy, and she waited patiently for his return. They wrote letters to each other daily while he was at sea.
They moved to Vermilion, OH in 1959, where they raised four children, Rodney (Pat), William (Dawn), Victoria (John) and Lisa. Anita also took care of her father for 36 years after the death of her mother, as well as helping others in need in her community. She was the voting location manager for her polling place for many years, and taught Sunday School at her church.
Anita was a kind and giving person, who kept her spirit of generosity and kindness even after she moved to assisted living in her final years where she welcomed every person who worked there, offered them snacks, and thanked them for coming. Even with Lewy Body dementia, she retained her sweet demeanor and sense of humor sharing one-liners and laughter with those who visited. Anita lived in the strength of her faith every day, taking care of others, serving them, and praying for all.
Her beloved Jack passed away in 2015, and she greatly missed him every day. Besides her children, she is survived by her nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Anita was looking forward to seeing Jack who had promised to wait for her at the gates to Heaven with a bouquet of flowers.
Anita requested that no services be held for her. Anita and Jack were buried together at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst, OH.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to your local animal shelter as she greatly loved animals as well.
Arrangements Entrusted to Orlando-Donsante-Previte Funeral Home of Wickliffe, OH (440) 943-2466.
