Mass of Christian Burial for Anna Vidmar (nee Kuly) age 102, of Wickliffe will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday May 23rd at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 29840 Euclid Ave., Wickliffe (Family And Friends Please Meet At Church). Mrs. Vidmar passed away gently in her sleep on May 18, 2018 at Brookdale of Wickliffe, where she had lived for the past year enjoying the care of a loving staff, as well as praising the tender hands and hearts of hospice caregivers, all of whom she considered to be her new friends.
Anna grew up on her family’s farm in Strongsville and relished sharing stories about the “Good Old Days.” In the Mid-1930s, Anna headed to the “Big City” of Cleveland, where she worked as a machinist in a number of reputable factories. She met her WWII Army Air Corp boyfriend, Stanley, married and moved to Wickliffe in 1951. She settled in as a full-time homemaker, blessed with good kids and wonderful neighbors. In time, she became the grandmother of five and great grandmother of nine, earning her endearing name of “Grannie Annie.”
“Grannie Annie” will always be remembered for her spunk, wit and wisdom, which she shared abundantly. Her famous homemade Sunday dinners and holiday celebrations kept the family connected. She inspired all to treasure the simple joys of life. Even in her aging years, she proudly witnessed to her faith in God, praying daily for friends and family. Her generous heart remains a gift to all who knew her.
Anna is survived by her children Shirley (Stephen) Kandra and Carol (Michael) Shaw; Her grandchildren Laura (EJ) Vale, Greg (Kary) Kandra, Steve (Anna) Kandra, Michael (Christi Hanzel) Shaw, Kerry (David Bayus) Shaw and great grandchildren Allie, Faith, Kyle, Drew, Elliot, Valerie, Nolan, Michael and Fisher; Her sister Helen Krisko and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley; Parents Emil and Helen Kuly; Brother Emil Kuly and sister Donna Stubljer.
The family will receive friends at The Orlando-Donsante Funeral Home 29550 Euclid Ave., Wickliffe, Tuesday May 22nd from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Anna’s memory to the Hospice of the Western Reserve 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110.
